Japanese Picture Sleeve Singles

Although the Who never toured Japan, their recordings were well represented in that
country. The Japanese picture sleeve singles in particular are highly collectable for a
number of reasons:
- Pressing quantities seem to be low and, given the popularity of the band, demand and
prices remain high. In over twenty years of serious collecting there are some that I have
never seen.
- The artwork is unique and for the most part very well done.
- The selection of songs is very interesting. "Whiskey Man/Boris the Spider"
must be the earliest Who single featuring John Entwistle songs on both sides.
- The materials used in both the sleeves and the records themselves are of the highest
quality. Although the later singles have only a single sheet insert for the picture
sleeve, the collectors in Japan seem to exhibit a higher degree of care for their records
than collectors in most other countries.
- I have only put in links to items that I actually own. For pictures of others please see
my want list.
